Viastore Modernizes B. Braun Logistics Center in Spain

B. Braun Melsungen acquired a modern warehouse in Santa Oliva near Barcelona. The new warehouse is even designed for future production volumes. Viastore Spain won the bid to modernize the warehouse. Its job was to adapt the logistic system to the processes and safety-related requirements of the international pharmaceutical and medical device company. Concepts include new warehouse management software (WMS), a new control system, and improvement of workplace ergonomics. The specification of the new WMS was defined by Viastore in close collaboration with B. Braun. The Viadat WMS, which is connected directly to the ERP, will operate the high bay pallet racking system connected to a two-story conveyor system, the carton sorter, the shuttle systems, and the vertical lifts. Viadat is a standard WMS that is designed to handle the high requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. Even the control systems for the conveyor technology were upgraded and modified to meet B. Braun’s safety standards. B. Braun also plans to improve the ergonomics of the order picking workstations and to bring in new systems, such as labeling machines and driverless transport systems.
